ROOT SMUDGE/ROOT TAP/ ROOT SHADOW:
This is something we use a lot here at our Sutherland Shire Hair Salon and if you've visited us before, you've probably heard this one! Root shadow, sometimes referred to as Root tap or smudge is when your foils (highlights) are toned down at the root, for a softer, more blended look.
This is fully customisable from client to client, you can opt for a more subtle root shadow or a more noticeable one. So This is perfect for our blonde babes who want a bright blonde look without that “barbie” blonde feeling and also for our other blonde babes that want a heavier root shadow for a lower maintenance blonde to help extend the amount of time in between appointments.
TEXTURE AND DIMENSION:
This basically means making sure your hair isn’t one boring colour all over or your haircut isn’t all one length. By mixing light with dark, you get a more dimensional colour which is what makes your hair look more “textured or have dimension” We do this by adding lowlights, toners and placing your highlights and balayage strategically to make it look like your hair has more body and not so flat.
Lowlighting has been a recent fav here at Coco21!
It's especially noticeable when you style your hair in a curl or wave and it also helps to make sure when you have regrowth, it isn’t so noticeable. Cutting texture into hair can make it look more voluminous and will make the hair look longer, fuller and gives the style more density. If you know anything about our Sutherland Shire Hair Salon, it's that our signature is a big, full and voluminous bouncy blowdry with lots of layers to finish the look!
TONER:
Toner is commonly used for controlling brassy tones, but depending on the custom formula created by your colourist, it can also be used to add vibrancy or to add that root shadow to help blend your highlights down for a more natural look.
TINT:
Hair tint is a permanent colour. The tinting process adds an extra layer of colour to your strands. Basically, you’re just adding a layer of pigment on top of the colour that’s already on your hair. This process should result in a subtle, transparent hue, and adds a colourful detail to your base hair colour. Tinting your hair can also result in a more sheen-filled appearance. This is what we recommend if your looking to cover greys! You can also opt for a tint add on option when foiling to help blend your greys better whilst still keeping nice and bright!
LOWLIGHTS:
Lowlights are the base colour to your highlights. You could almost describe them as the opposite of your highlights! People who want a bright blonde sometimes get scared of lowlights as your darkening sections throughout the hair, but they work together to give you natural and healthy looking hair and in-turn can make your highlights appear brighter as they contrast each-other beautifully.
